ISO 9001

The Standard is described by The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) as follows:

“ISO 9001:2008 specifies requirements for a quality management system where an organisation needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

All requirements of ISO 9001:2008 are generic and are intended to be applicable to all organisations, regardless of type, size and product provided”.

Benefits of ISO 9001

The adoption of a quality system adhering to the requirements ISO 9001: 2008 are varied. Company awareness on the precise needs of what it is the customer expects from your company in terms of quality of service is enhanced wit all the expected benefits derived from having happy customers. The system also encourages and mistakes or errors to be addressed in such a way that procedures are amended or resources improved to ensure that these things do not reoccur. The ethos is therefore one of continual improvement across the board which will result in higher performance levels, higher productivity levels, less scrap and generally speaking an overall improvement in company performance. The company is also seen to be making a public statement to the effect that it does consider the needs of the customer to be paramount and a resulting improvement in the company profile will often follow. There are other benefits in-so-far as by adopting the system more opportunities to tender are presented to the company particularly within the public sector and the larger and more discerning of your potential customers. Tender success rate is also increased as often the tendering process is weighted in favour of those who are seen to be adopting the standard. This standard is of generic design the format of which is similar to other ISO standards and hence a foundation is now laid to adopt further standards and increase even more the potential to be successful in gaining new business.
